ABOUT THE ROLE
The Cyber Security Architect role involves joining our client from the Federal Government Department's Cyber Program to oversee and drive the implementation of Essential 8 (E8) ISM controls. The primary focus is to enhance the Department's cyber maturity and define the architecture for ongoing cyber protection in line with Federal Government PSPF and ISM requirements. Responsibilities include developing cyber uplift action plans, high-level designs, interim and end-state cyber management models, and capability development roadmaps to mitigate internal and external threats.
Open to permanent or contract role.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Prioritize platforms and applications.
Provide ISM interpretation support for Policy & Advice.
Conduct an enterprise gap analysis to identify critical Department-specific platforms and systems.
Develop guidance for Program executives and address off-course programs and projects.
Advise on IT scope planning and work packages for assigned projects.
Assist in costing and scoping of delivery work.
Support high-level design development and drive endorsement at Agency Solution Evaluation Forums.
Provide targeted guidance on cyber architectural E8 compliance and controls.
Develop candidate work packages for Project Delivery Plans.
Review logical architecture document updates by service providers.
Develop and maintain domain architectural design patterns (e.g., for IGA, WAE, PAM/PIM).
Establish and participate in Domain Technical Working Groups.
Draft scope items and advice for inclusion into Agency Domain-based security strategies.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience: Demonstrated leadership in cyber security architecture, especially for E8 ISM controls maturity uplift projects, with a track record of mentoring junior architects.
Skills: Effective communication, collaboration, and engagement with business units, security groups, and ICT service providers on complex cyber architectural and project delivery issues.
Expertise: High-level analysis and strategy formulation, experience in creating cyber security strategies for large Government agencies, subject matter expertise in emerging cyber technologies and risk-based threat assessment.
Desirable: Prior experience with enterprise IT environments, including cloud services, and awareness of project management methodologies or previous project team experience.
Must be an Australian citizen with minimum Baseline clearance.
