Data Engineer
POSITION PURPOSE:
Bayer Crop Science's Biotech R&D Data Science team in Bangalore is looking for a Data Engineer to design, develop, and support in-house Data Science applications. Our ideal candidate values software craftsmanship, curiosity, proactivity, and collaboration. They should create robust process improvement solutions and identify opportunities to enhance systems. We seek an experienced pipeline-centric data engineer with expertise in Java and AWS for data storage, as well as strong mathematical, statistical, and communication skills to explain complex data trends to leaders.
Objectives of this role
Collaborate closely with team members, stakeholders, and US colleagues as an Individual Contributor to design and implement applications and robust data pipelines for research and reporting. Ensure that all developments align with business objectives and effectively meet the needs of stakeholders, while also enhancing cross-team collaboration and communication.
Optimize workflows to enhance product offerings and develop comprehensive customer lifecycle and retention models. Improve team visibility and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Promote best practices and support continuous learning within the team, fostering an environment of growth and innovation while being ready to contribute independently as needed.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the development team to construct complex algorithms for unique data insights.
Utilize agile software development processes to iteratively enhance back-end systems.
Model front-end and back-end data sources to provide a comprehensive view of user workflows and enable detailed data analysis.
Develop data pipelines to clean, transform, and aggregate information from various sources.
WHO YOU ARE:
BS degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience with Java and SQL in areas like:
Single-page web apps
Exposure in AWS Cloud service is mandatory
Micro-service design and development
Large, distributed systems
Software security, processing, and analyzing large data sets
Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to nontechnical leaders
Ability to work on a dynamic, research-oriented team with multiple projects
Good to have
Java 8.0+ and Spring Framework
HTML, JQuery, JavaScript, CSS, React or similar frameworks
Data streaming with Kafka, AWS SNS and SQS
SQL databases: MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL
AWS: RDS, Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, ECS, ECR, Docker
Working with structured and unstructured data stores
Code documentation in GitHub
Agile methodologies using Azure DevOps, JIRA
Professional certification
