Job Summary
The Design Manager will oversee the end-to-end design process for data center projects across Australia. This role involves ensuring compliance with Equinix global standards, local statutory codes, and effective coordination among all project stakeholders. The candidate must possess strong leadership and technical expertise.
Responsibilities
Design Ownership
Guide, receive and review complete designs from the Engineer of Record (EOR)
Take full responsibility for the design's accuracy, compliance, and delivery
Ensure designs align with Equinix global standards and local statutory regulations
Compliance Management
Ensure adherence to international and local building codes, zoning requirements, and statutory approvals
Monitor designs for compliance with sustainability practices and industry-leading standards
Stakeholder Coordination
Collaborate with Construction Managers, Commercial Managers, Procurement teams, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution
Facilitate regular meetings to address design issues, milestones, and escalations as needed
Project Management
Manage design submittals during construction phases in coordination with contractors, external consultants, and internal teams
Oversee the workflow of document controllers and audit deliverables
Process Improvement
Drive process improvements related to cost, quality, and design duration metrics
Collect feedback from construction and commissioning teams for continuous improvement
Regional Flexibility
Adapt designs to meet the unique challenges of projects across different countries in Asia Pacific
Address pre/post-construction permits and statutory approvals specific to each jurisdiction
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in data center design or critical infrastructure systems
Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement across diverse cultural contexts
Familiarity with sustainability practices in data center design is an advantage
Skills Required
Leadership and project management expertise
Technical proficiency in data center infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, structural)
Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality outcomes
Location
The candidate will be based in Australia but must be willing to travel extensively within the region depending on project requirements.
