Editors read and provide editorial suggestions for draft versions of Bills, Amendment Papers, and secondary legislation to ensure that the drafts follow style and formatting rules and are clear, accurate, and consistent. They also check that draft amendments fit correctly with the existing legislation being amended. Editors sometimes also edit non-legislative documents.

About you
To be considered for the role of editor in our Editorial Services team, ideally you would have:
demonstrated ability to deliver editorial services, including by analysing language structures and format, and through fact-checking:
knowledge of editorial practices, standards, and systems:
excellent written English skills and a good grasp of grammar:
an appreciation of the principles of plain language:
the ability to consistently maintain a high standard of work under strict deadlines:
proven experience of working in a team as a positive, constructive, and contributing team player:
strong communication and relationship management skills:
commitment to building knowledge, skills, and abilities in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga:
commitment to learning and applying new skills, knowledge, and ways of working:
a tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in publishing or editing, or in another relevant field.
An understanding of legislation and legislative processes and concepts, the New Zealand political system, and parliamentary processes would be an advantage. If you do not have previous experience working with legislation, you must be able to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding to the level needed to carry out the editor role.
