Grade: SGEU.06.
The Traffic Services unit of the Operations Standards Branch is seeking two highly motivated individuals with excellent technical and analytical skills. Reporting to the Electronic Data Systems Supervisor, you will form part of a provincial team that serves a wide range of stakeholders, including, but not limited to, Ministry staff, consultants, contractors, researchers, other government agencies and members of the public.

As an Engineering Assistant, you will independently, or as part of a team, collect traffic, vehicle, and slope indicator data on the provincial highway system using portable electronic equipment. You will provide remote and field technical support for permanent networked devices such as vehicle classifiers and roadside cameras. You will develop and optimize travel routes that integrate monitoring and maintenance activities. You will process and analyze collected data for the purposes of quality assurance and preparing summaries. You will perform and adapt procedures for installing, operating, testing, diagnosing and repairing monitoring equipment.

To succeed in this role, you must possess a certificate or diploma in electronics or engineering technology from an accredited post-secondary institution, or have completed an equivalent level of courses related to science and/or engineering at university. Courses or experience specializing in geotechnical engineering or networking will be considered an asset. You will have knowledge of the operation of electronic device systems and software related to data collection, monitoring, and communications. You will have knowledge of provincial highway and municipal road infrastructure. You will have the ability to perform light to moderate physical work outdoors on a sustained basis with some exposure to traffic and variable terrain. You will have knowledge of workplace safety and/or traffic control procedures.
