Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring an Instructional Designer in Elkridge, Maryland. The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing engaging and effective learning programs for employees. Responsibilities include creating content for instructor led training (ILT) as well as digital training content from multiple sources and utilizing the LMS as a platform for online and virtual learning; evaluating training content, courses and projects and creating web-based learning for internal and external customers through digital channels. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), utilizing instructional design methodologies to create dynamic learning experiences. Seeking candidates with Minimum of two years’ experience in instructional design, eLearning development, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Instructional Design certification preferred; Experience with various learning management systems (LMS), authoring tools (e.g. Articulate, Adobe Captivate, etc.), and multimedia production tools preferred; Heavy equipment, engine or power generation knowledge preferred.

Requirements for the Instructional Designer position include:

Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and assessment strategies.
Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and learning technologies.
Strong communicator with excellent oral and communication skills.
Must be able to multi-task, including handle multiple projects in an organized, timely manner.
Be well organized with the ability to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service.
Have strong attention to detail.
Proficient with all Microsoft Office products and Adobe suites.
Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Occasional travel is required – overnight or out town via car or airplane.

Physical requirements must be met for the Instructional Designer job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Starting Compensation Range: $75,000 - $93,000 per year

Actual base salary may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, education, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations. In addition to base salary, the compensation package may include participation in performance-based incentive programs (e.g., discretionary or non-discretionary plans), as well as overtime eligibility depending on the role.
