East End Community Health Centre provides primary care, and health promotion services to southeast Toronto. A unique aspect of our mandate is to serve people who may have difficulty accessing health care due to factors such as language, culture, mental health, substance use, poverty or the lack of health insurance. Program staff at East End CHC offer a wide variety of health education programs and support services dedicated to marginalized populations that focus on independent living, connectedness, and overall health and well-being.
At East End CHC, the Office Assistant will support the Administrative Team and Allied Services Team and will work under the direction of the Director of Allied Services and Community Engagement and Operations Manager. This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
The Office Assistant works in partnership with other staff and management to support the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Centre.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the administrative team in overseeing all aspects of Centre operations.
Duties will include:
Data entry of client surveys or Health Equity Questionnaires;
Updating records of Centre security cards, keys and fixed asset registry;
Organizing and maintaining administrative files and storage facilities;
Preparing inactive client charts for re-distribution, as per protocol;
Work with administrative team to plan and run the Centre’s Annual General Meeting in June;
Maintain the Centre’s membership list, including making phone calls to members
General administrative office support;
Providing administrative support to management as required
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. To be eligible, applicants must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
QUALIFICATIONS
Suited to a youth or student interested in administration in a community health/ non-profit environment
Excellent interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues in a culturally diverse practice population
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism with a willingness to engage in ongoing learning to increase self-awareness, improve practices and eliminate disparities in health status.
Experience performing administrative tasks, developing resources such as educational flyers or activity handouts
Attention to detail with strong computer skills, particularly in Excel
Ability to quickly learn new computer applications and take initiative
A second language, relevant to catchment area populations, is an asset.
Must be vaccinated against COVID-1+
