Payroll Manager

Full-time, 4 weeks annual leave per year

About the Role

Some areas of responsibility include:

2.1 Payroll: Manage the end-to-end payroll process for all staff categories, ensuring timely and accurate payments in collaboration with Human Resources, while adhering to legislative requirements for leave entitlements, allowances, and ex-gratia payments. Prepare complex payroll calculations and advice on regulations and compliance matters. Monitor appropriate Awards and adjust pay rates as applicable.

2.2 Reporting: Oversee the generation and analysis of payroll-related financial reports, ensuring accurate data entry into the General Ledger using systems such as MicrOpay and Xero.

2.3 Oversight of Remittances: Ensure the accurate remittance of salaries, deductions, union fees, salary sacrifice contributions, and PAYG tax, while managing and verifying the submission of Single Touch Payroll (STP) reports.

2.4 End of Financial Year: End of Financial Year payroll processing, ensuring accurate reporting to the ATO and compliance with statutory requirements.

2.5 Superannuation: Prepare and submit superannuation contributions to the clearing house, acting as the primary liaison for superannuation fund relations and ensuring compliance with contributions and staff inquiries. Ensure staff details are accurate, updated, and compliant within the clearinghouse portal and payroll databases.

2.6 System Enhancement Leadership: Spearhead initiatives to improve payroll systems and automate processes for greater efficiency and accuracy. Ensure payroll systems are continuously updated and optimized.

2.7 Continuous Improvement: Evaluate payroll procedures, recommend improvements, and implement changes to streamline operations and enhance service delivery. Lead payroll related changes and projects end-to-end.

2.8 Governance and Compliance: Maintain strict audit standards and compliance measures, working closely with the Finance Team and Human Resources and to ensure payroll and employment records are accurate, up-to-date, and meet audit and regulatory requirements.

2.+ Audit Management: Lead audit preparations, manage payroll-related inquiries, and ensure meticulous maintenance of records to meet audit standards.

2.10 Data Management: Oversee the accurate and secure management of payroll and staff records across multiple platforms, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with privacy regulations.

2.11 Advanced Data Analysis: Leverage advanced Excel and database management skills to lead data analysis projects, ensuring accuracy and providing high-level insights across the organization’s systems.

2.12 Cross-Department Collaboration: Work as a team within the Finance department, and collaborate with senior management and Human Resources to align payroll operations and strategies with broader organizational goals.

2.13 Staff Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for all payroll inquiries, ensuring effective communication and resolution of complex matter in a timely manner.

2.14 Other tasks as may be required by the Principal, Business Manager and Director of Finance and Reporting to ensure the smooth and safe running of the payroll function and operations.


To be successful you will need:

· Experience with ConnX and the interface with MicrOpay is highly desirable

· Ability to work independently, use own initiative and be self-motivated

· Previous experience in a school environment would be preferred

· Attention to detail

· Ability to work co-operatively with other colleagues to manage projects

· Valid Working with Children Check

Employment Conditions

The position is permanent full-time, working five days per week including school holiday periods. The role includes four weeks of annual leave. Salary rates will reflect the experience of the successful candidate, in line with Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021.
