We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The Centre for Educational Leadership

The Centre for Educational Leadership is an established and distinctive centre within the IOE’s Department of Learning and Leadership with around 75 staff. Working for and with the teaching profession, CEL aims to be the first port of call for educational leadership and innovation in the UK and, increasingly, the world.

CEL’s research, teaching and knowledge transfer work reflects a commitment to applied academic rigour. It aims to:
• Develop criticality: build evidence-based, theory-informed and innovative approaches to policy and practice
• Deepen learning: broaden perspectives and forge connections between theory, policy and practice
• Nurture collaboration: encourage shared thinking, collaboration within, across and beyond communities of learners
• Activate knowledge: develop and mobilise knowledge and understanding within organisations and systems
• Enhance equity: promote understanding about and action around equity and social justice

About the role

Programme Leaders in the Centre for Educational Leadership are creative, motivated and solution focused leaders of both programmes and people with successful, credible experience in the leadership of learning, equity and diversity.

The programme leader will have strategic responsibility for specific areas across the Early Teacher Development programme which will also involve having oversight of programme management systems and processes. This could include elements of programme design, programme delivery, quality assurance and/or supporting a group of regional Teaching School Hubs.

The successful candidate will also work flexibly across CEL’s portfolio of leadership and consultancy programmes as needed to support and promote a coherent offer to educational leaders.

The role may include working with groups of regional partners and involve some national travel.

This post is available until 31st December 2025 in the first instance but may be extended to a permanent contract following any successful award for the new ECF contract. (Award result known: November 2024).

The closing date for applications is 17th October and interviews are scheduled to take place face-to-face at the IOE on Tuesday 22nd October.
