About the Role
The Public Programming Lead is responsible for strategising, curating and delivering 7 days of content within Tumbalong Park as a free to attend element of SXSW Sydney 2025.
Leveraging existing partners and acquiring new strategic content partners to deliver a compelling programme aligned with the SXSW Sydney vision, encompassing all event pillars across Conference, Tech & Innovation, Music, Games and Screen.
Please note: this is a 7 month Max term contract until 31st October 2025.
Requirements
What does a day in the life look like?
Aligned with the wider SXSW Sydney event strategy, create a public programming strategic framework of content and events for delivery in Tumbalong Park aligned with our core pillars of Tech & Innovation, Music, Games and Screen.
Creating a public programme suitable for a daytime B2B conference attendees, casual evening attendees and weekend family focused attendee.
With a focus on maximising attendance, through driving visitation and dwell time harnessing the values of the event, work with all the team leads to ensure that the content drives this outcome.
In partnership with the SXSW Marketing Team assist in the development of a SXSW Sydney public events sub-brand, and support marketing efforts, including at event digital content to maximise attendee engagement and brand/event promotion.
Working with the internal Event Operations team, and external site management teams to deliver the public programme, with a significant focus on engagement and customer experience.
Work cross functionally to ensure public programming compliments the wider SXSW Sydney event as well as separately ticketed/affiliate events across Music, Games and Screen festivals.
In collaboration with the SXSW Sydney Partnerships team manage the integration and delivery of third party content within the public precinct.
In collaboration with Partnerships, Programming and Marketing teams prospect and delivery content, marketing and/or commercial partnerships to deliver on the public programming strategy.
Chair the SXSW Sydney Public Programming working group, with Head of departments from all pillars of the event, to drive outcomes and content.
The Public Programming lead is responsible for driving the public visitation metrics within Tubmalong Park
About you
Essential Skills and Experience
Worked in a similar position, programming large scale public events.
Self starter, takes initiative and prioritises
Comfortable driving action when there is ambiguity
Excellent problem solving and analytic skills
Strong leadership skills and stakeholder management
Proven strategic planning and execution skills
Commercial acumen and project management skills
Good communication and listening skills, with ability to quickly develop strong relationships and instant rapport
Excellent planning and organising skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately. Also, ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, with conflicting deadlines and multiple projects
Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Possess the intellect, cultural competency and flexibility to work effectively in a collaborative, values-driven and energetic team.
Key Considerations:
This role requires you to:
work outside of normal business hours and on the weekends
lift/carry more than 5kg from time to time
spend extended periods of time on your feet at events
