Recreation Customer Service Attendant (Heritage Sites)

Overview
The City of Richmond invites applicants for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who are passionate about sharing local history with visitors, and are excited to join a team of vibrant recreation customer service attendant (heritage). If you have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a desire to help our visitors connect with the cultural and natural heritage of Steveston, we encourage you to apply today. Work locations may include Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Steveston Tram, London Farm, and Steveston Museum.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide exceptional customer service to visitors, including greeting visitors warmly and helping with site and area wayfinding.
Provide visitors with historical information about the site and the Steveston area.
Support visitors to engage with heritage demonstrations and activities.
Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance, including coordinating emergency response to urgent incidents when necessary.
Ensure safety and security of visitors and heritage buildings.
Perform basic cleaning and upkeep of exhibits and park spaces.
Enter transactions into a point of sale (POS) system and cash handling.
Assist in managing visitors at high volume special events.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.
Knowledge and interest in local history.
Ability to provide effective customer service to visitors and diffuse challenging situations in an effective manner.
Ability to work independently and interdependently, and takes initiatives.
Ability to prioritize demands, works well under pressure, and deals with stressful situations with professionalism.
Strong problem solving skills and use of good judgement in challenging situations.
Ability to employ a variety of communication methods to captivate audiences and facilitate meaningful and inclusive visitor experiences.
Ability to inspire and make personal connections with visitors of all ages.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform cashiering duties accurately.
Knowledge of and/or familiarity with POS (Point of Sale) Registration System.
Ability to perform set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and related equipment.
Satisfactory completion of Police Information Check.
Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Qualifications and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent required.
Completion of Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification or higher may be required.
Experience in customer service, cashiering, and Point of Sale (POS) or other computer cash system.
Related experience and/or education in history, theatre, education, museums, or tourism is preferred.
Previous experience working with diverse public audiences is an asset.
Knowledge of BC history is an asset.
Working Conditions:
Duties may be performed in a heritage environment. Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time. May be outdoors, in all weather conditions. May encounter upset or unpleasant customers. Must be able to work weekends.
