As a Senior Manager, Regulatory Initiatives, you will contribute to the overall success of the Global Wealth Management business by ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
Develop expert understanding of Global Wealth Management (GWM) business units (brokerages, asset management, estates and trust, private banking, mutual fund dealers, and International Wealth Management), including operational risk management processes, regulatory obligations, and risk governance.
Proactively identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor operational risks, while providing key oversight functions including Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA), Operational Risk Events (ORE) reporting and Scenario Analysis.
Develop and foster relationships with stakeholders/control functions and business partners for the purposes of creating an integration risk framework and enhancing GWM business line effectiveness
Lead compliance to Scotiabank’s Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) Policy for WM business units
Work closely with Wealth Management business units to proactively identity, assess, mitigate, and monitor outsourcing risks while providing key oversight functions and program assurance
Support the development of the annual Risk and Control Self-Assessment and Scenario Analysis plan
Provide advice and counsel to the relevant business units in addressing operational risk events, improving internal processes and controls
Assist Regulatory Operations and Controls in monitoring applicable regulations as required, ensuring timely compliance with new regulations
Support the development and implementation of FATCA/CRS/QI operating procedures, governance, and oversight model
Create scenarios to evaluate which services are at risk and assist business with developing mitigation plans
Champion NIRA program for WM business units by providing advice and counsel, coordinating assessments with Control Functions, and preparing package for the NIRA Committee review and approval
Champion a customer-focused culture and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge
Ensure individual and team goal plans are aligned with the overall strategies and objectives on Global Wealth Management Internal Controls, GWM and the Bank
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
A University degree with a Major in either Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or Law
7+ years’ experience in Internal Controls, Operational Risk, Compliance, or Internal Audit functions
Previous experience in a leadership and people management role
Master’s degree is an asset
Professional designations/certifications are an asset including CPA, CFA, CSC
Expert knowledge of Microsoft package including Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio
Data analytics experience (Tableau, Power BI)
Strong understanding of WM businesses, including products, services, operations, systems, and practices
Strong knowledge of regulations, policies & procedures impacting WM business
Strong verbal and written communication skills
An ability to develop strong working relationships with numerous cross functional support areas and business line executives
A proven track record to successfully manage multiple and competing priorities
The ability to effectively work with and influence stakeholders to implement initiatives
The ability to learn quickly, are a self-starter, with a questioning mindset
