We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Meteorologist with excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of the emergency management sector. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, adaptable, and resilient, capable of delivering daily responsibilities and responding to changing circumstances.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage customers and partners
Engage with state and territory emergency management agencies to understand their operational needs and enhance their use of Bureau services.
Brief and advise customers and partners
Communicate multi-hazard information to diverse audiences in the emergency management sector and during media interviews.
Customer centric delivery
Ensure a customer focus in leading and contributing to the development of customer offerings, projects and products.
Location:
Primary base is the Bureau's Office in Sydney NSW, with rostered duties in Sydney Olymipic Park NSW and Wollongong NSW.
Remote work with limited supervision, providing specialist weather advisory services within Emergency Management Operational Command Centres at NSW Rural Fire Services, Sydney Olympic Park and NSW State Emergency Services, Wollongong and from other Bureau offices during high-end severe weather events.
Travel to these agencies and Bureau offices is required, shared across the team with some travel expense recovered as per the Bureau's Enterprise Agreement.
Working Hours
Full time, Shift Work. Typical hours worked:
Standard Day work – 0830 to 1621 (7.51hrs) – Monday to Friday.
Operational shifts – day shifts, 12 hours – 7 day roster.
Reporting:
Reports to the Manager, Hazard Preparedness and Response NSW/ACT
Part of a local (NSW/ACT) and regional (QLD/NSW/ACT) team, collaborating with national forecasting and warning teams.
Requirements:
Comprehensive understanding of meteorology and its impact on emergency management.
Ability to extend knowledge to hydrology, oceanography, and climatology.
Availability for extended working hours during extreme weather events.
