Hopewell currently has a full-time opportunity for a site carpenter to join the construction department.

The position will report directly to the Supervisor, Framing.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct quality control checks to ensure Hopewell standards are met and jobs are in compliance with the building code and Hopewell quality control standards.
• Assist the Construction team to ensure homes pass inspections and stay on schedule.
• Miscellaneous framing and other tasks as required, including but not limited to:
• Framing basement stairwell walls c/w supports.
• Framing of bulkheads and or dropped ceilings.
• Installation of backing including but not limited to specific kitchen, bathroom, and stairwells.
• Adjust and secure exterior doors.
• Install exterior door locksets.
• Fix or replace bowed wall studs.
• Cut - patch floors.
• Build and install ramps.
• Reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, building codes and related documents.
• Providing recommendations to improve design, efficiency, and quality.
• Manage material and minimize waste.
• Ensuring work areas are kept neat and tidy.
• Maintain clean and safe job sites.
• Adhere to and enforce safety program.
• Vacation coverage for Supervisor, Framing.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
• General construction safety knowledge.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and Engineering details.
• 3-5 years previous framing experience required.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools.
• Valid driver’s license with suitable drivers abstract.
• Criminal Background check required.
• Valid CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid Certifications, Fall Arrest, and Lift Equipment courses an asset. The company will provide training if required.
• Candidate must supply own hand tools and steel toed footwear.
• PPE such as hard hat, gloves, high vis vest, and eye protection will be provided.

Physical Demand Requirements:
• VISION - Near and far vision. Some work activities involve the monitoring of processes, objects or situations in the work environment that are far from the worker. Other work activities are performed near the worker.
• HEARING - Verbal interaction. Work activities involve communication with colleagues on a regular basis.
• BODY POSITION - Work activities involve combinations and varying degrees of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• LIMB COORDINATION - Multiple limb coordination. Work activities are carried out by coordinating the movements of upper limbs simultaneously with lower limbs.
• STRENGTH – High. Work activities involve handling loads of 10lb but less than 50lb.
• ENVIRONMENT – Primarily outdoors, in all weather conditions.
• HEIGHT – Ability to work at high levels on ladders, scaffolding and climb stairs.

Working Conditions:

This is a field position and will require travel between designated job sites. Traditional core hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. Work may be required occasionally on weekends and/or evenings.
