As a SOAR Admin Assistant, you will assist low-income higher needs older adults with participation in the SOAR program hosted at Gerry Gray Place. This is a new position, supporting the Community Program Assistant Manager in the development and delivery of non-medical recreational programming for seniors and elders 65 and older. Working with a team of volunteers for program delivery, you’ll enhance the health and well-being of older adults. From directing seniors to appropriate programs and services, to assisting with hot lunches and fitness activities at the centre, your therapeutic recreation experience and administrative skills will make a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors and their families. Training will be provided.
You are:
You empathize with seniors and can provide effective and appropriate support
Collaborative and can establish and maintain effective working relationships
Proficient in using digital tools for data entry, organization, and connection
Organized and have excellent time management abilities
You are trust-worthy, passionate about senior’s wellness, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
You are understanding of local cultures and accepting of differences
You are committed to improved wellness outcomes for older adults.
You have:
A diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or related Human Services field, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of seniors’ issues and challenges related to healthy aging
Familiarity with local support systems and community resources
Experience with program development and delivery
Minimum one (1) year of recent experience working with seniors and diverse populations
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interpret human behaviour
Strong computer skills
Strong organizational and time management skills, including completing reporting, follow-ups and evaluations.
A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
Experience working with volunteers
