Position Overview

The Engineering, Parks & Environment Department (Engineering Operations) requires two (2) Regular Full time Utility Tradesworker – Waterworks.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, repair, maintenance, monitoring and construction of the City’s water and sewer systems. You will inspect, service, maintain and repair gate valves, meters, pumps, hydrants, pressure reducing stations, sewer pump stations, storm grit separators plumbing and irrigation systems, and related waterworks and sewer works appurtenances. In addition you will respond to and investigate trouble calls and emergencies. You will direct and participate in the work of others. You will work closely with Supervisor and schedule, coordinate and oversee the work of others ensuring performance standards, specifications and safety procedures are met, as well as coordinate with external contractors and agencies.
You will prepare cost and time estimates and monitor budget expenditures related to projects. In addition, you will establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, receive and resolve service requests and issues from the public and other departments, prepare and maintain records/reports, and order materials/equipment.
Requirements
You will have completed Grade 12 supplemented by courses leading to a diploma or trade related to the work. An EOCP Water and Sewer Distribution level 2 Certification is required. You will have considerable experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of Water and Sewer services. A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in water and sewer operations, maintenance and construction operations is required. The position requires strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a team setting, use independent judgement, along with excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Infor Public Works, or similar Financial and Asset Management systems is considered an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
Compensation
$43.00 per hour
(January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
