Employment Tax Analyst
This Position is remote but the training is onsite in Nashville
1st Shift - 7 am - 4 pm or 8 am - 5 pm
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (The essential responsibilities and accountabilities of this position)
• Employment Tax Services
• Prepare filing s and payments of state unemployment, state and local withholding, state disability and a variety of specialty employment taxes.
• Create journal entries to allocate tax liability expenses and credits to appropriate facility.
• Analyze tax assessment notices, research, and initiate problem resolution in writing in a timely manner.
• Update and maintain tax assessment notice data base for accurate management reporting.
• Develop a strong rapport with the payroll service center (PSC) Analysts.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Apply for state and local withholding account s for new corporate entities.
• Maintain security through compliance with internal control standards and regulatory mandates.
• Quarterly and Year End
• Prepare and file all regulatory reconciliation forms and research any applicable discrepancies.
• Complete unemployment tax returns and transmit files and signed documents to appropriate jurisdictions.
• Reconcile W-2 reports and communicate discrepancies to payroll Analysts.
• Format and submit state W-2 records according to the individual state filing requirements.
• Resolve issues with rejected files and re-submit.
• Amend returns as necessary.
• Research and Communication
• Analyze weekly deductions for accuracy and completeness and communicate any discrepancies to PSC payroll Analysts.
• Instruct PSC payroll Analysts on employee corrections and adjustments discovered during tax filing to ensure accurate financial reporting and tax filings.
• Instruct payroll Analysts on necessary General Ledger corrections.
• Respond to questions from regulatory agencies regarding tax payments.

EDUCATION (Minimum formal academic training which typically provides the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred (Accounting)
• Multi State and Local Employment Tax Experience
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with tax preparation software is preferred
• BNA or CCH tax research databases experience also preferred
• Experience must be within the Payroll/Employment Tax Field
Specific Skills
• Excellent ability to exercise good judgment
• Ability to adjust to changing situations and priorities
• Communication skills (oral & written)
Preferred Knowledge:
• General Ledger and Intercompany Accounting
• Lawson Payroll System and/or BSI
• Empower/FLS Tax Software
Physical Demands
• Prolonged sitting
• Occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.

We are looking for a responsible, independent professional payroll controller, a team player who can work in a fast-growing company and is able to deliver on strict timelines. You will join our professional finance team (reporting to the US Controller).
Key Responsibilities:
• Payroll Oversight
• Oversee and manage end-to-end payroll process for US (multi-state) and Canada employees.
• Approve and review payroll payments for accuracy and compliance before processing.
• Evaluate the current payroll provider and recommend transitioning to an in-house payroll system, if appropriate.
• System Evaluation and Transition
• Lead efforts to transition payroll to an in-house system, including vendor selection and implementation.
• Collaborate with HR to identify and implement the best benefits providers as part of the transition.
• Assess current payroll systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Compliance and Reporting
• Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
• Oversee Canadian payroll compliance and ensure adherence to local regulations.
• File accurate and timely state and federal payroll reports, including W-2s, 10++s, and T4s.
• Monitor legislative changes and adjust processes as needed to maintain compliance.
• Collaboration on Benefits and 401(k) Plans
• Work closely with HR to transition 401(k) plans to a new provider.
• Annually evaluate employee benefits in collaboration with HR and recommend strategies that balance employee satisfaction with employer cost-efficiency.
• Accounting Collaboration
• Partner with the accounting team to ensure payroll entries reconcile with financial statements.
• Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes related to payroll accounts.
• Process Improvement
• Develop, document, and maintain payroll procedures to ensure scalability and efficiency.
• Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies or issues quickly and effectively.
• Employee Support
• Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries.
• Ensure a seamless experience for employees during onboarding, payroll processing, and other payroll-related matters.
Qualifications:
• Experience:
• 10 years of payroll management experience with a combination of public and private companies.
• Experience handling payroll for high-growth or multi-state environments.
• Experience managing Canadian payroll and compliance.
• Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong understanding of multi-state payroll laws in the US and Canadian payroll regulations.
• Expertise in payroll tax filings (e.g., state withholding, unemployment, garnishments).
• Experience with payroll provider evaluations and transitions.
• Familiarity with benefits administration and integration with payroll systems.
• Advanced proficiency in payroll software and tools (e.g., Trinet, ADP, Paylocity, or others).
• Solid understanding of accounting principles with experience working on general ledger reconciliations.
• Soft Skills:
• Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and implement improvements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
