The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

BCI4Kids is a world-leading clinical research program in pediatric neurology, based at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. This program strives to provide children with severe neurological conditions access to innovative technology and therapeutic interventions to achieve greater independence and quality of life. Children and their families are at the core of the program and play a crucial role in all aspects of project design, implementation, and knowledge mobilization.

The primary location of work is the Alberta Children's Hospital, with the opportunity to occasionally work remotely. This position reports to the Program Manager.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Assist in a major research study (project start-up activities, project scheduling, data collection, participant visits, data entry, data management, basic analysis, results interpretation, and manuscript preparation) and support ongoing and future program research projects
Acquire an understanding of the project scope, aims, deliverables, timelines and activities
Work with the Research Lead(s) to determine priority activities and tasks
Complete tasks related to project start-up, including project administrative requirements
Conduct day-to-day project activities including but not limited to project scheduling, data collection, participant visits, data entry, data management, basic analysis, results interpretation, and manuscript preparation
Prepare project related communications including updates for stakeholders and sponsors, and presentations for public or academic audiences
Plan, organize and set-up project team meetings
Provide information and support developing various reports, including annual project reports for sponsors
Qualifications / Requirements:

Undergraduate degree in the field of neuroscience or another health science discipline, Master's degree or additional post-secondary training an asset but not required
Minimum 2 years of related work experience in research administration, project coordination, or other clinical research experience, preferably in pediatrics
Clinical research training including Good Clinical Practice, Health Canada Division 5, Medical Device and TCPS-2 certifications, or willingness to obtain
Knowledge of university policies related to research is required, including research ethics, AHS research approvals, contracts, agreements, and funding processes
Working knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with medical chart reviews and use of medical data for research purposes is an asset
Experience working with patients who have severe disabilities, and their families/caregivers
Knowledge or interest in neurotechnology including brain-computer interfaces is an asset
Demonstrated skills in computer applications, data analysis software (e.g., R), data management systems (e.g., REDCap), and survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics)
Knowledge of university research systems including IRISS, PeopleSoft, OnCore and others, or willingness to learn
Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills including a high level of comfort interacting with children and parents in a clinical research setting
Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to prioritize activities. The ability to multi-task with ease and efficiency and work in a dynamic environment is required
Strong sense of initiative and willingness to take responsibility for task completion
